Dana Point Hardware
Dana Point Hardware

In the late 1950's, Bill Sandberg began working in the hardware industry in his hometown of Burbank, Ca. A few years after marrying, Bill and his wife Carolyn purchased Frazier Park Lumber and Hardware where they worked and raised their family.

In 1976, they decided to sell the business and venture out to find a new location to start a store of their own. They settled on the small beach town of Dana Point, Ca. Bill and Carolyn partnered with Bill's brother, Bernie, to open their doors in December of that same year. To make ends meet and give their fledgling business a healthy start, Bill and Carolyn lived in a tiny trailer in the back of the hardware store for a year before purchasing a sailboat, docked in the Dana Point Harbor, and living aboard for 17 years.

Soon, Bill and Carolyn were joined by their two children, Bill Jr., his wife Carla, and Susan Sandberg (now Basanda). Bill Jr. and Susan both had children who grew up helping out in the family hardware store. Each of them respectively followed their own passions in life and Susan's son, Billy Barker, stayed to run the business. Billy has worked in the store since 1998. He and his wife, Elisa, now run the store together. Their oldest of four children is the newest employee, but you'll often find all four of their children running the registers and helping customers.
